It has been an exciting weekend in my studio. On friday morning I received a fax from the Smithsonian for a large jewelry order for my sterling silver flower collection and fused art glass necklaces!
The Smithsonian is now only carrying Made in the USA products for their gift shops and to be a part of this transition is fabulous!I am extremely honored and proud that my jewelry was chosen by this world class institution...time to get back to the studio to finish the order!

Spring Buyers Guide Ad
Spent about 4 hours yesterday working on a full page ad I'm placing in the Wholesale Crafts Buyers Guide / Spring Edition. I decided that my business budget would be better spent on a series of full page ads rather than on another huge trade show. This magazine targets 35,000 handmade jewelry buyers across the country and I am hoping that my New Net 90/Risk Free Opportunity for new wholesale buyers will be irresistible!
Here is a look at version #1 of the ad, still needs a little tweeking:

Embossed Hibiscus Flowers Jewelry
Here are some new embossed sterling silver Hibiscus flower jewelry. I cut out the designs from watercolor paper and run them through a rolling mill to create the embossings. Some of the pieces are accented with 23K gold leaf and sealed with a lacquer varnish to protect the gold. It's a fun process with unlimited possibilities!

Wax Castings
A look behind the scenes in my studio! Here are some of the steps that I take to create my cast sterling silver collections. Below are wax wire flower designs that I made using an x-acto knife and a hot wax pen. I wanted to make a collection of larger, yet lighter, floral images for the new summer jewelry collection. My process is very free form and loose. First I will sketch some images in my sketchbook from flowers in my garden and then I cut and bend the wax pieces into various shapes and 'weld' them together with the hot wax pen.
This is what the pieces look like after they are cast in sterling silver. As you can see, there are many little 'sprues' covering the petals, that is where the molten silver flows into the mold created from the wax model. Now each sprue must be sawed off, sanded and the whole piece polished. The process is very labor intensive and although they are cast, each piece is
hand finished individually.
Here is a finished Hydrangea Necklace.
Montauk Daisy Necklace.
African Violet Earrings
From here I will design many different combinations of the cast flowers to create both small and large necklaces and earrings. This is part of the new jewelry that I will be taking to Atlanta AmericasMart trade show next month. The whole collection will be finished, hopefully,
within the week so I can pack it all up and show the buyers. Fun!
